Okay, this is a big one. Caboose and I are heading back to Madripoor for episode six of Going in Blind Video Game Club, and there is a lot to unpack here. We’ve got combat to talk about, a whole bunch of comic book lore for me to ask questions about, and some pretty big storytelling choices. Some of those choices really worked for me. Others had me going, wait, did we actually need that? Without spoiling anything here, this was definitely a conversation we needed to have.

Marvel's Wolverine is a single-player action-adventure game and a standalone entry in the Marvel's Spider-Man series, sharing continuity with those titles while telling its own self-contained story. Players control Logan/Wolverine in close-quarters combat, using his adamantium claws against enemies drawn from the X-Men comic book mythology.

One thing I will say is that if you’re calling this entire game button mashy, I don’t think we’re playing the same fights. There’s a lot more going on than just hitting square a whole bunch of times. You have to figure out when to dodge, when to parry, and when you can actually get some damage in. And while my favourite boss fight hasn’t changed, we talk about one here that does a lot for the story. It’s not just about how much fun you’re having with the fight, but what it means for the characters involved.

I love that Insomniac gets to take these characters and make the story their own. They’re not afraid to take some big swings, and Caboose helps me understand where a lot of that comes from in the comics. But there were also moments where I felt like, okay, you already had me. I was invested. I didn’t necessarily need something extra to sell me on it. So, yeah, we get into all of that, and now we’ve got just one episode left before we wrap up the game. We’re nearing the finish line, everybody.

This episode is when we go back to Madripoor and ending when Logan “wakes up.” Don’t watch this episode until you find out what that means. The next episode is going to be the finale so make sure to finish the game by then!
